Catfish caves and spawning caves: The perfect environment for loricariid catfish and dwarf cichlids

Keeping an aquarium is an art that requires constant attention, passion and expertise. Especially when it comes to specialised areas such as breeding loricariid catfish and dwarf cichlids. Here, catfish caves and spawning caves are an integral part of successful breeding. But why are clay caves for the aquarium so popular?

  • Natural environment: A DRAK clay cave for the aquarium is always modelled on the natural habitat, which makes it particularly attractive for fish.
  • Collaboration with experts: Our spawning caves have been developed in collaboration with renowned breeders to ensure that they are precisely tailored to the needs of different species.
  • Handcrafted quality : Each of our catfish caves is a handmade one-off, made with precision and passion.

In aquaristics, it is crucial to create environments that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. With the clay catfish spawning caves, you can achieve exactly that - a perfect symbiosis of functionality, beauty and nature.

Catfish caves: The diversity of the range

When making a clay cave for the aquarium, the details are crucial. Here at DRAK-Aquaristik, we have made it our mission to design these details with special dedication. Let's take a closer look at two of our top sellers:

  • The clay igloo 'Coco': This handmade spawning cave has been specially developed for dwarf cichlids and small loricariid catfish . Thanks to its coconut-shaped structure and attention to detail, the clay catfish cave is quickly and easily accepted by the animals. Combined with aquatic plants and mosses, it imitates a natural environment that is unrivalled in terms of aesthetics and functionality.

  • The crayfish and shrimp tube open 8 × 3 cm: This "maxi" tube is not only a visual highlight, but also offers shrimp and dwarf crayfish species a first-class hiding and resting place. The tube blends harmoniously into any tank and will quickly become a favourite place for your aquatic inhabitants. Also available in 7 × 2.5 cm.

Catfish cave made of clay: Craftsmanship and quality

Clay, an element of the earth, offers a true playground for craftsmanship in its many shapes and colours. Our catfish caves are handmade and have been tested time and again in co-operation with breeders of loricariid catfish and dwarf cichlids. They are therefore precisely matched to the different species. Please note that each catfish cave may have slight variations in shape and colour due to drying and firing processes, which makes them truly unique. Whether multicoloured, supernova, black, terracotta or white - each colour has its own characteristics. These colours describe not only the clay used, but also the craftsmanship behind it. For an exact idea of the colour effect, we recommend taking a look at the associated pictures.

Clay cave aquarium: a must for every breeder

Every passionate aquarist knows that spawning caves are essential when it comes to the successful breeding of many fish. However, not every cave is suitable for every species. At DRAK-Aquaristik, we offer you a finely tuned selection of clay caves for the aquarium. Each model has different characteristics to meet the needs of the different species.

Which clay cave aquarium is the right one for my breeding?

  • The popular clay igloo flat is suitable for particularly small cave breeders
  • The 17 cm × 3 - 3.5 cm central inlet cave is ideal for medium-sized L catfish species that only breed successfully in caves with a side entrance
  • The mini tubes are suitable for small witch catfish species, also suitable for rearing tanks and glass hanging boxes
  • This front inlet cave is particularly suitable for rearing half-grown loricariid catfish (e.g. L38 and L46 zebra catfish) and small CPOs (crayfish). They are quickly and easily accepted and offer protection and space for growth and further development
  • All front, centre and side entrance clay caves are available in various sizes
